South African Men’s 400m Relay Team Wins Appeal After Disqualification

The rivalry between South Africa and Nigeria continues to intensify, especially after the latest developments at the 2024 Olympics.

The Nigerian men’s 4x400m relay team was disqualified, while the South African men’s team successfully won their appeal, allowing them to stay in the competition.

Four Nigerian athletes—Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene, and Chidi Okezie—were disqualified from participating in the final of the men’s 4x400m relay due to an alleged violation of competition rules.

The disqualification was the result of the athletes stepping on the line during their heat in the semi-final stage, which ultimately cost them a spot in the final.

South Africa, however, filed an appeal claiming they were impeded during the race, and their appeal was upheld. As a result, they will advance to the final alongside teams from Botswana and Zambia.

The news of Nigeria’s disqualification has sparked a wave of reactions on Mzansi Twitter, with memes and tweets targeting the Nigerian team flooding social media.
