Nota Praises DJ Maphorisa for Gatekeeping Amapiano

Nota Baloyi has weighed in on the ongoing conflict between DJ Maphorisa and Samthing Soweto over the ownership of music masters. Despite previous claims of exploitation by DJ Maphorisa, Nota has voiced his support for the DJ while urging both parties to reconcile.

On Twitter, Nota emphasized: “He did produce; he might not have composed, but those composers you found in his home work for his production company. Why did you pay him if he wasn’t the producer? Don’t let the fans that weren’t there for you when you needed him gas you into discrediting him. Make peace, guys!”

Nota further revealed that DJ Maphorisa’s efforts in gatekeeping have played a crucial role in preserving the Amapiano genre. “If @DjMaphorisa wasn’t gatekeeping, Amapiano would’ve been a sub-genre of AfroBeats by now. This is what I said in 2020, thank goodness our artist community heeded the warning. Now let’s settle differences, get the business done fairly & clear the samples!”
