Botswana Declares Public Holiday to Celebrate Tebogo’s Historic Olympic Win
The President of Botswana, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, has declared a public holiday in honor of sprinter Tebogo Letsile after his historic Olympic victory.
Tebogo made history and brought immense pride to his nation by becoming the first African athlete to win a gold medal in the men’s 200m. He achieved this remarkable feat by defeating two top sprinters from the United States in the final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In response to this momentous achievement, President Masisi issued a statement announcing a half-day public holiday to celebrate Tebogo’s victory.
“Public Holiday in Botswana: The President of Botswana has declared a ‘half-day public holiday’ across the country to celebrate Letsile Tebogo, the country’s first athlete to win a GOLD medal at the Olympics.”
“Botswana citizens will enjoy an ‘afternoon day off’ on Friday as a tribute to Tebogo, who brought joy to the nation on Thursday by winning the GOLD medal in the men’s 200m, becoming the first African to earn this prestigious title.”
